RAHEEM STERLING COMPLETES €47M MOVE TO CHELSEA

Former Manchester city forward, Raheem Sterling has now officially joined the blues! The Londoner has been one of City’s key performers over the past seven seasons, hitting double figures for goals in each of those campaigns and claiming nine major honours, including four Premier League titles.

The England internationals offensive attributes have posted impressive numbers in recent seasons, including 25 goal contributions last term as Man City retained the domestic title and reached the Champions League semi-final. Since 2016/17, he is one of only eight players to have scored 80 or more Premier League goals, averaging 22 in all competitions across the past five seasons, as well as an average of 10 assists per term over the same period.

On the international stage, Sterling has become a regular for the English national team with 77 England caps and 19 goals, including three at Euro 2020 final where he helped the Three Lions reach the final at Wembley, a short mazy dribble away where he spent his youth and developed his love for the game. Here is his farewell message to Manchester City:

Raheem Sterling headed a short list of Thomas Tuchel’s attacking targets and had entered the final year of his contract with Man City; Chelsea looking for more firepower after Romelu Lukaku rejoined Inter Milan on loan. The 27-year-old has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge with the option of a further 12 months and has linked up with Thomas Tuchel’s squad on their pre-season tour of the United States.

Sterling becomes the first men’s signing of the Todd Boehly era at Chelsea and will also be joined by Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly to fill Chelsea’s need for a centre back for £40M with bids already accepted. The summer transfer market opened on the 10th of June and has seen transfers of several players including Sadio Mane’s move to Bayern, Haaland’s move to Man.City amongst others.

“London is my home and where it all started for me, and it’s amazing I now have the opportunity to play in front of friends and family week in,week out at Stamford Bridge. I’m really looking forward to meeting the fans there soon. I can’t wait to get going now and continue to do my talking on the pitch.” says Sterling expressing his delight at the move.
