Music is the medicine of the mind and soul. A Greek philosopher, Plato, once said that “music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and charm and gaiety to life and to everything”.

Music imitates and invokes emotions. It could be sadness, joy, eroticism, anxiety, feeling pumped or even relaxation. Medical research has shown that music seems to slow heart rate, lower blood pressure, reduce levels of stress hormones, increase serotonin and endorphin levels in the blood. Music boosts the production of dopamine too. Music is also used in medicine to manage pain and stimulate memories. The importance of music to mental health can not be overemphasized.
