A lot of important games were played this weekend – hearts were broken, betting tickets were torn, and heart wrenching banters filled the air. The wounded lions of Turin wrestled A.C. Milan; Borrusia Dortmund played with Bayern Munchen; while the two Manchester neighbours had a slugfest. It was an exciting football weekend indeed.

Borrusia Dortmund moved seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga after coming from behind to steal all three points from their bitter rivals, Bayern Munchen. Marco Reus cancelled both goals scored by Robert Lewandowski but it was Paco Alcacer that scored the winner, settling the klassiker.

Juventus transferred the aggression from their midweek loss on A.C. Milan with Mario Mandzukic and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring in each half. A.C. Milan had a chance of getting something out of the game but it was thrown away when Gonzalo Higuain failed to convert a penalty kick, the team’s woes further increased when the attacker got sent off.

Due to a midweek win against Juventus and an in form no. 11, fans of “second half f.c.” had high hopes this weekend but the bald dude in charge of the Etihad football team had something else in mind. Throughout the game, the red devils were no match for their noisy neighbours. The only shot on target the team had was the penalty Antonio Martial managed to convert into a goal. David Silva was the first to register his name on the scoring sheet while Aguero and Gundogan continued the damage. I don’t think Mourinho’s hands will be anywhere near his ears this time.

Do not let the exciting rivalries distract you from the fact that Barcelona (with Messi) lost to Real Betis on a 4 – 3 goal margin. Other exciting matches were played this weekend also. Below are the scorelines:

  • Liverpool 2 – 0 Fulham
  • Chelsea 0 – 0 Everton
  • Arsenal 1 – 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
  • Celta de Vigo 2 – 4 Real Madrid
  • Roma 4 – 1 Sampdoria
