The just-concluded UEFA Champions league finals brought about new considerations for the Ballon D’or award. While many are still on Messi being the best player of all time and therefore deserving of the award, others are saying based on performances and, the number of goals scored this year so far, the award should go to someone else. The most popular alternatives are Lewandowski from Bayern Munich and Kante from Chelsea.

N’golo Kante is a French footballer currently playing for Chelsea as a midfielder and the France national team, also as a midfielder. He is widely considered the best midfielder of his time. He rose to stardom in the just concluded premier league finals in a match between Chelsea against Manchester City.

In a review of players of the Premier League finals by cbssports, Kante had a rating of 9.0. The report says, “A game where Kante’s qualities came to the fore, that heady mix of energy and an understanding of the game that meant he was always in place to receive a pass or block an attacking lane for City. One of the great midfielders of his generation, this will go down as one of his crowning performances.”

Also, being awarded Man of the Match in both legs of a Champions League semi-final is not such an easy fit and, this alone qualifies him for the award.
However, winning the award ultimately depends on his performance for the rest of the year and, we all are aware of how easily tides change in football.
