On Friday 29th June 2018, the Association of Physiotherapy students’ freshers’ orientation and party held. The dual packaged event (an orientation and a party) was held at the Physiotherapy Lecture Theatre (PLT) and the Famewo Common Room (FCR) respectively. The theme of the orientation program (meant for the fresh intakes of Preclinical and Clinical Students) was “DPT: A NEW BEGINNING”.
The orientation started around 11.30am (though slated for an earlier time) was anchored by the prestigious CMC’s (Akinluyi Toluwalase and Falodun Ebenzer).

Lecturers present at the event included: Professor A. Akinpelu, Revd Dr Jaiyesimi, Dr Ayanniyi, Dr Olaleye and Dr Ogumike. Next up was the introduction speech given by the President of the association, Gbonjubola Yusuff. The new intakes then introduced themselves and this had resulted in moments of humour as ‘stallites’ were able to identify with those from their states of origin and of course, the Oyo-Osun students stole the show with their large number. Then, the question and answer segment continued the programme. Questions were asked on the introduction of Doctor of Physiotherapy(DPT), newly introduced courses, the high number of courses taken by students in the department and our involvement in surgery cases. All questions were answered by the lecturers present who shed insight into the development of the new curriculum and the work done by physiotherapists.

Professor Akinpelu later advised the students to put their all into Physiotherapy. She also informed them on the strict dress code policy in the department which cuts across both male and female. She put particular emphasis on the minimal jewellery policy and the no ‘painted’ or acrylic nails. Students across higher levels (400 and 500) also gave advised the new intakes on staying serious and having passion for something else asides academics. Closing remark, vote of appreciation and closing prayer was taken by the APS president and students were all offered refreshments. The new intakes were thereafter taken on a tour of the Physiotherapy clinic immediately after the orientation. The fresher’s party held later in the evening, started at about 5.30 pm. Students played the whispering game and it was all dance and drinks till about 7. 00 pm.
