MOVIES TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2022

0

2021 has been a pretty impressive year as regards movies, at least considering the times we live in. This year has seen the release of awesome movies like “Spiderman: No Way Home”– the top-grossing movie this year, some pretty average ones like “Red Notice” and some rather disappointing ones (I’ll let you all decide these by yourselves). We also saw some movies like The Batman, Black Adam, Death on the Nile – which has gotten moved like three times now, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, have their production dates moved forward for various reasons but mostly due to the pandemic. As we see more cinemas start to open up and, we finally start to accept the idea of a new normal, here are some movies to look forward to next year:

SCREAM

Directed by Matt Bettineli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the fifth instalment of the Scream franchise is scheduled for release on January 14th. Scream 4 was released in 2011 and there’s a lot of anticipation as regards this next instalment. Unlike the previous four, it will be seeing a major plot twist with Sam (Melissa Barrera) becoming the killer’s target. This will be marking the first time in the history of the movies that the primary focus would not be Sidney Prescott. It promises to be amazing.

DEATH ON THE NILE

This movie has perhaps seen the most number of shifts in release dates in the last two years. Initially scheduled for release on 23rd October 2020, it got shifted to December 18, 2021, then to September 17, 2022. Its release date has finally been fixed for February 11, 2022, and we can only hope that there are no changes to this. The movie adaptation of Agatha Christie’s beautiful book will see Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot’s, vacation aboard a river steamer become a search for a murderer. With star actors and actresses like Armie Hammer, Gal Gadot and Kenneth Branagh, this movie has no excuse to flop.

THE BATMAN

With a US release date of 4th March and a budget of a hundred million dollars, this is definitely one of the movies to watch out for next year. Director Matt Reeves was said to have looked to Stephen King’s novel, Christine, for inspiration and hopes to dethrone Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy as the best Batman movie. You sure don’t want to miss this.

FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE

Gellert Grindelwald poses a great threat to the wizarding world as he plots to seize control and Professor Albus Dumbledore learns of this and sets out to stop him. Knowing that he can’t stop him alone, Dumbledore entrusts magizoologist, Newt Scamander to head an awesome squad of witches and wizards to battle Grindewald and his legion of followers. Scheduled for release on April 15, this sequel to “Fantastic Beasts: The Crime of Grindelwald” is the third instalment in the Fantastic Beast Film series.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

This is definitely one of the most anticipated movies of 2022. Following the success of “Spiderman: No Way Home” at the cinemas, this movie that follows the adventures of Dr Stephen Strange and his research on the Time stone is on course to becoming the top-grossing movie for next year. It is directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by jade Halley Barlett and Michael Waldron. It’ll be featuring star actors and actresses like Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr Strange, alongside Rachel McAdams and Elizabeth Olsen, among others. Its scheduled release date is May 6.

As we look forward to an entertaining 2022, we can only hope that these movies live up to their hype. But if they do not, we will find solace in other movies that perhaps might not have been as anticipated, but are surprisingly awesome. Till then, we’ll watch out for these awesome movies and enjoy them as much as we can.
