In preparation for the upcoming national elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that a total of 72.7 million of Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) were collected across the country ahead of the general elections.
The INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, at a press conference on Thursday, February 21, noted that the 72.7m of PVCs collected represents 86.3% of the over 84m registered voters in the country.
The electoral commission stated that a total number of 11.2m PVCs remain uncollected, which implies that 11.2m Nigerian who did not collect their cards would not be able to vote in the 2019 general elections.
According to the breakdown of the number of the PCVs collected in each state, Lagos leads with 5.5m PVCs collected, followed by Kano with 4.7m PVCs. The data further showed that Kaduna has 3.6m PVCs collected and that Katsina has 3.2m collected, while Rivers has 2.83 million PVCs collected.

Meanwhile, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the INEC, has said “only an act of God” can stop the conduct of the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections slated for Saturday, February 23.
The INEC chairman stated this in Abuja while addressing a cross section of the diplomatic community and international election monitoring groups in Nigeria for the 2019 elections, NAN reports.
Yakubu, who was represented by an INEC national commissioner, Dr Mustapha Lecky, said that the commission had put in place everything possible to ensure the elections hold on Saturday.
The INEC boss said that the commission had no reason to feel that anything would stop the conduct of the election on February 23.
