Chief Olusegun Obasanjo graces the 17th annual distinguished guest lecture of the Forum.

OSUNTOKUN HALL, UCH- The much anticipated and advertised visit of the former president of the republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo took place yesterday, August 10.

Programme which started 50 minutes behind schedulewith little or no space left in the venue for anyone to sit. Present in the audience were doctors, nurses’, medical students, Non academic staff, and students of the Oyo State College of Health and Sciences. The audience, who could not wait to hear what the former president had to say, immediately rose to their feet as the icon stepped to his sit on the high table alongside Prof. O. O. Akinkugbe, who functioned as the Chairman of the event.

The MCs of the occasion, Modupeola Savage and Edoh Gabriel energetically and vibrantly opened up the program after the anthems by introducing the members of the high table; The Chairman of the forum, Emeritus Prof. O. O. Akinkugbe, the Vice Chancellor of university of Ibadan, Prof. Olayinka represented by the provost of College of Medicine, UI, Prof. Olopade Olaopa, the Chief Medical Director of University College Hospital , Prof .T. O Alonge, Director-General of IITA, Mr. Tsasinga, Dean of Clinical Sciences, Prof . Mayowa Owolabi, the Deputy Provost, Prof. Obafunke, the Staff Adviser of The Forum, Dr. J.K Ladipo and the President of The Forum , Mr. Terngu Moti.

The program of events went on as advertised, Mr. Moti gave his welcome address followed by Prof. Olaopa’s welcome address and Prof. O.O Akinkugbe’s opening remarks. A brief history of the forum was given by their pioneer Chairman, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad and finally the lecture began.

Obasanjo went the old fashion way to read out the lecture to all present, pointing out in his lecture that the lack of moral ethics was the recipe for under development in Nigeria and that the dwindling value system was what had brought the country to her knees.
He also went on to quote some bible verses and finally urged everyone to obey the golden rule, which states; “do to others what you would have them do to you.”

It was a memorable event, filled with punch lines, funny quotes and humorous moments. A moment to remember.
