THE WEEKND TOPS LIST OF WINNERS AT THE 2021 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS

The Weeknd was the biggest winner at this year’s Billboard Music Awards (BBMA). This year’s award held at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, California, United States with Nick Jonas hosting the event.

However, a number of the awards for the winners of the non-televised categories via the Billboard Music Awards’ Instagram live with TV host, Matthew Hoffman, revealing the winners. The finalists for the Billboard Awards are determined by album and digital sales, streaming, radio airplay, and social media participation and the nominations for each of the 51 categories are based on the chart period from March 21, 2020 to April 3, 2021.

The Weeknd won 10 of the 16 categories for which he was nominated. Amongst those 10 was the biggest win of the night as the “Top Artist”. This brings his total to 19, making him 5th most decorated BBMA winner of all time. Boy band, BTS won every category for which they were nominated, bagging 4 awards. Pop Smoke, with a posthumous recognition as a finalist in 10 categories set a new record, winning 5 of them. His mother, Audrey Jackson, received these awards on his behalf saying, “Thank you for honoring my young warrior.”

Drake received the Artist of the Decade Award while rapper and social activist Trae Tha Truth was honored with the Change Maker Award. Artist, P!NK, also bagged the Icon Award.
