I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SPEAK MY TRUTH

I do not know how to speak my truth

So I tell you what your ears itch to hear
and paint it in colourful words
and fragrant aromas to douse the air;
gain the on-air court’s approval

Sọ̀rọ̀sókè
but how do you share your
tumbling, rioting thoughts
about a man who pronounced himself tree today, dog tomorrow
and not be branded toxic

How do you own your truth
if an armour is at a ready
to blaze you down
with a barrage of ugly, angry tweets

I do not know how to squeeze my truth
into your pigeon hole
so I disguise and play the clown
hoping not to be cancelled
