CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN: IS THIS THE END OF HIS CAREER?
The football world was shaken on June 12, 2020 during the Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland when Denmark midfielder, Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch after having a cardiac arrest. Fortunately, he was resuscitated through the efforts of the medical team and now has a cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implanted.
Eriksen, who was discharged on the 18th of June, was spotted for the first after his discharge by a fan who said the midfielder looked healthy. However healthy, the chances of Eriksen returning to the field is slim. Sanjay Sharma, a professor of sports cardiology at St. George’s University had stated that UK football bodies would likely be “very strict” about allowing him to play again. Sanjay had worked with Eriksen during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.
Former teammate Daley Blind, who suffered a similar incident two years ago has encouraged Christian Eriksen to “defy his doubters” and continue his football career.
About two and a half weeks ago, Eriksen gave an update on his condition on his social media page. He expressed gratitude for the good wishes received and, words of encouragement to his teammates.
No timeframe has been given for a verdict on whether the midfielder will play again. However, fans have come out to wish the 29-year-old success in his future career path, whether he continues playing or not.
