SEVEN WEEKS AFTER RESUMPTION: MLS HOLDS ORIENTATION PROGRAM FOR FRESHERS
After an unsolicited two- month leave imposed by the college, NIMELSSA (Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Association) could finally organize an orientation program for her new students in the university and in the University College Hospital (UCH). The program held on Friday at the seminar room of the College’s Institute of Advance Medical Research and Training (IAMRAT) was well attended by students of the department who had anxiously awaited it.
The Head of the Department was ably represented by the Examination Officer who welcomed the students and advised them on good behaviour. He emphasized the need to obey school rules and regulations especially in the areas of conduct and dressing. The academic committee of the department (whose program it is) also awarded first class students of the 200 level class as a means to encourage academic excellence. There was also the Lab round to familiarize them with the Laboratory, the profession and the professionals. The president of the Association, who could not hide his happiness commended the committee and considered the program “a great success”. In his words, “The program was well appreciated and the feed backs have been awesome. We chose Friday and Saturday because we did not want to claim their whole weekend”.
The two days orientation program was almost disrupted on Saturday when the continuous downpour could not allow for the football match. The match was however postponed and the students were directed to the Famewo Common Room of Alexander Brown Hall. After the first session of the movie show, the students were returned to the main campus.
The President said, “We could not have the second session because it was late already. We then took them back to UI and we specially ensured that the ladies are taken to the gates of their halls”.
