And so our story has come to an end.

From the depths of defeat against Croatia to our soaring victory over Iceland, we have been through every emotion in this roller-coaster of a world cup. We fought our hardest, played our hardest and cheered our hardest but it was not enough 😢.

A draw would have been enough to see us through to the round of 16 and we were so close to achieving that. A defensive slip up however saw all our world cup dreams and aspirations vanish without a trace as Marcos Rojo, a very unlikely goal scorer, scored a volley in the 86th minute breaking the hearts of Nigerians into a million tiny pieces. Messi put Argentina ahead in the 14th minute finishing off a beauty of a pass from Ever Banega. The Nigerian players fought back earning a penalty in the 51st minute which Victor Moses slotted home as calmly as possible from the penalty spot.

We had chances to seal the game which fell to Odion Ighalo who failed to convert on both occasions much to the dismay of Nigerian supporters worldwide. A penalty appeal was waved off by the referee after Marcos Rojo seemed to have handled the ball in the 18 yard box even after consulting the VAR. Rojo has made it a point of duty to score against Nigeria last doing so in the 2014 world and his goal this year has sent us crashing out of the world cup. Although this is the end of the road for Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World cup

One thing is for certain we are proud of the Nigerian team they played their hearts out .
