OLAITAN CLINCHES CHAMPION OF THE PODIUM
-By Titus Adeolu
Just two months after clinching the Alexander Brown Hall’s Warden’s Challenge, the fast-rising public speaker, Mr Olaitan, a 500 level student of Physiotherapy has clinched the first prize at the Champion of the Podium which held at the Famewo Common Room of the Hall on Saturday 22nd June, 2019.
He saw off competition from Adekayowa of the same class and Titus of the 2017 MBBS class who came out second runner up.
The poorly attended event commenced over an hour behind schedule as even some of the speakers arrived quite late. In attendance, however, were some newly elected executives including the Hall Chairman, Finance minister and Defense Minister and the former president of the society, Dr. Busayo Omotosho.
The judging panel comprised of Mr Chinedu Nwaduru who was the chief Judge, Mr. Dara Olaniyan, the president of the Literary and Debating Society, University of Ibadan and Miss Mobosola, an alumna of the Society while Miss Jumoke of the 500 level Physiotherapy class was the timekeeper.
The judges decried the poor effort of many speakers as they seemed mostly under-prepared. The show, however, recorded a number of interesting moments.
The Champion of the Podium is a rite of passage for the most recent recruits of the Alexander Brown Hall Literary and Debating Society as they transit to full-fledged members of the society.
