Just when Nigerians thought that she had reached the peak of her career with the 2015 movie –Road to Yesterday where she made her first write, produced and starred in the movie; Nollywood diva, Genevieve Nnaji has yet again showed her versatility with her directorial debut of the movie – LionHeart.
Aside being predicted to change the face of Nollywood on the international scale, LionHeart has also made history as the first Nigerian movie to be bought by Netflix.
Equally starring in the movie, this movie is not like other Nollywood movies where debut directors try to showcase themselves as star actors of the movie. Although appearing in the movie, the spotlight shifted from the star actress to other Nollywoods icons present in the movie.
Aside being appraised for the tight script which depicted the struggles of a female in a Male-dominated environment; the movie was studded with other iconic figures in the industry include Pete Edochie, Nkem Owoh (popularly known as Osuofia) and Onyeka Onwenu to mention a few.
Brilliantly shot in the cities of Enugu and Kano states -this movie portrays a contemporary Igbo film that celebrates a female child rather than the male. It is also an authentic indigenous film that is true to the Nigerian roots – no ‘phoney’ accents, grandiose lifestyle and weaves flying all over the place.
Currently rated a 5.4/10 on IMDb, the movie has received warm comments both on the national and international level with predicted awards for 2019 and 2020.
