ALLISON BECKER SECURES CRUCIAL WIN FOR LIVERPOOL: FIVE TIMES GOALKEEPERS HAVE SCORED IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE
Liverpool shot stopper, Allison Becker, led his team to a crucial win against West Brom after scoring an incredible header in the last minute of the game. This makes him one of six goalkeepers to have scored in the premier league.
Late in extra time, the goalkeeper went up for a corner. From the set piece, he rose highest to go past Sam Johnstone and give his team the three points.
The win against West Brom put Liverpool one point behind Chelsea and three behind Leicester, keeping their hopes of Champions League qualification alive.
While it is one of the most unusual sights in world football, five other goalkeepers have scored in the Premier League. Peter Schmeichel was the first goalkeeper to score in Premier League. He scored for Aston Villa against Everton in October 2001. His goal was however, a mere consolation.
Brad Friedel of Blackburn scored against Charlton in the 2003-04 season. His goal came in the 89th minute of the game but he ended up conceding moments later with Blackburn losing 3-2 to Charlton.
In March 2007, former Tottenham goalkeeper scored a free-kick past Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster. Tim Howard also scored a goal just outside his six yard box against Bolton in the 2012-13 season although Everton still lost 2-1 to Bolton.
The most recent goal keeper to score before Allison did was Asmir Begovic for Stoke against Southampton in the 2013-14 season. The winner by Alisson is perhaps the most dramatic goalkeeping performance in Premier League history.
