Olympia Dukakis, an American movie producer and actress, has died at the age of 89. The veteran actor and teacher passed away on Saturday, according to the announcement made by her family.

Olympia started her career in the theater and is well known as a screen actress. However she made her movie debut as a patient in a mental hospital in the movie Lilith by Robert Rossen’s in the year 1964. She experienced a sudden shoot to fame after winning an Oscar as the best supporting actress in the movie Moonstruck, also winning a Golden Globe award for the same movie.

Olympia Dukakis died in her apartment in New York City and while a cause of death has not been released, it is said that she has had failing health for a while.
