The second edition of the Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association (ICOMAA) Students’ Day was held on the 8th of November, 2023 at the Osuntokun Lecture Theatre, University College Hospital. The theme of the event was Made in Ibadan 2.0. The event served to kickstart the annual ICOMAA homecoming week, which holds every November.
The event was born out of a desire to encourage students of the College of Medicine to interact with alumni in a relaxed setting, fostering relationships between students and alumni.
In attendance this year were the President of ICOMAA Worldwide, Prof Emmanuel Otolorin, Dr Taiwo Soyinka, Vice President 2 ICOMAA Worldwide, General Secretary of ICOMAA Worldwide, Dr Gbolahan Obajimi, the Provost and Deputy Provost, College of Medicine University of Ibadan, Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun and Prof Fatai Adeniyi respectively.
The line up of activities included a raffle draw, a performance from the Sinfonia choir, an Alumni moment and a talent show which featured a variety of performances from singing to instrumentals and beatboxing. There was also a general knowledge quiz between the Royal Quiz Club and some alumni of the college. After a close contest, the Royal Quiz Club emerged victorious, much to the delight of the students.
The Provost of the College of Medicine also addressed the students, informing them of the activities scheduled for the rest of the week and reiterated the importance of their attendance. She also reminded the students of the 100m race between the herself and the Deputy Provost, urging the students to be in attendance to cheer their preferred runner.
Before the night ended, presentations from student organisations including Hamstrings, Red Cross, TEDx, UIMSA and APS were received to inform students and alumni of the activities of those organizations and to express gratitude for all the support they have received from the alumni. The vote of thanks and pictures of the alumni and students brought the night to a close.
