TRUMP VS IRAN
– Tolulope Ibukun
President Trump vs Iran started on a high note when the Iranian President Rouhani warned Trump that his hostile policies could lead to the ‘mother of all wars’ with the country itself. Rouhani warned Trump to stop ‘playing with the lion’s tail’ and threatening Iran , ‘ or else you will regret it’.
Trump informed President Rouhani in a super tweet to never threaten the US again or face historic consequences. He called for Rouhani to ‘never, ever threaten the US again or sufer the consequences the likes of which throughout history has never been suffered before. We are no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence and death. Be cautious’.
Within hours, an Iranian state owned news agency IRNA dismissed Trump’s tweet naming it as a passive reaction and a copycat. We await further news about how far this can go.
HEATSTROKE IN JAPAN
Japan’s weather agency has recorded an alarming increase in the atmosphere’s temperature. They recorded their highest temperature ever on the 23rd of July at a 41.1 C, the very first I the country’s history. The scorching weather has killed about 77 people and sent about 30,000 people to different hospitals across the nation. The heat wave has been baking the nation for weeks while survivors of the rain disaster in western Japan continue to recover from fatal floods and landslides earlier this month.
The intense heat has prompted Japan authorities to warn people to stay away from the sun as much as possible, drink a lot of water, consume adequate salt and use air conditioners.
This year’s heat wave comes as such a surprise and has revived concerns about the 2020 Olympics which is to be held in July and August, the hottest months of the year. Authorities have begun looking at appropriate measures to control and combat the heat wave.
