THE 73RD PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS
It was a night of camera flashes and bright lights in Los Angeles, on Sunday, 19th September, 2021, as the Emmy Awards honoured the best and finest in U. S. primetime television. After last year’s event held virtually, this year saw most A-list nominees hit the red carpet at the Event Deck, at L. A. Live in Downtown Los Angeles, California. The show was hosted by American actor and stand-up comedian Cedric Antonio Kyles, popularly known as Cedric the Entertainer.
The Queens’s Gambit, The Crown and Ted Lasso were the night’s biggest winners. Netflix’s show about the royal family, The Crown, was the biggest winner for the night, bagging 7 awards in all. Its success made Netflix rack up the highest number awards amongst various networks and streaming services. Apple TV+ bagged four awards courtesy of Ted Lasso. It set a new record as the most nominated freshman comedy series in the history of the Emmys. Michaela Coel took home the award for “Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie” for her show, I May Destroy You, making her the first black woman to win the award.
