Senate cuts budgets for 2018 allocation

The Senate on Wednesday, 7th November approved that half of the N242 billion budgeted for the 2019 election be removed from the 2018 budget of 30 federal agencies.
The motion was presented by the chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje, who said that election could not be funded entirely from the service wide votes as earlier approved by the Senate. The motion which was approved by 18 other senators proposed that N121 billion be removed from 30 agencies.
A breakdown of the amount to be sourced from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies showed that N25.527 billion would come from Power, Works and Housing; N12.6billion – Water Resources; N11billion – Agriculture and Rural Development.
Others are N10.238billion – Education and N8billion-Health; N8.9 billion- Budget and National Planning; N7.5 billion – Science and Technology; N6.7 billion-Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF); N7billion – Trade and Investment; N2.7 billion – Labour and Employment among others.
