NAIJA
NAIJA
Nigeria, I hail thee.
My dear fatherland, where is thy milk and honey?
With an anthem crying for commitment
But only receives melodies from a mindless soul.
When shall thou be made whole?
Nigeria, I hail thee.
Where the amplitude of hope is negative
With strength weakened in greed
Whose prize is filled with expensive tears
Tears from the labours of heroes past almost in vain.
Can thy clouds ever be pregnant again
with the rain of hope, strength and love?
Instead of fruitless protests and endless lamentations
Passed down as legacy that makes the mind crazy.
Lead thy children to fulfillment once again.
Nigeria, I hail thee.
Can the surgery of responsibility
Be done on thy progeny?
With everyone wearing a license to do good
Rather than chasing expired license to drive and feel good.
Let the wicked be suffocated
And the amplitude of selfishness be as low as the valley,
Raising the threshold of peace and unity
As high as the mountains.
That the labour of thy heroes past be retained.
Curdle thy children
Till they are absorbed
With the music of peace, strength and love.
Naija, thy honey cannot be bitter, thy milk cannot turn sour.
Awaken the giant within thee.
