JOHESU to resume strike on Thursday

The Joint Health Sectors Union has announced that it will resume its suspended industrial action on Thursday.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, the group said it was resuming the strike following the failure of the Federal Government to address and resolve the issues it raised earlier.

In the letter, JOHESU said, “You will recall that the Joint Health Sector Union suspended her industrial action on May 30, 2018.

“Having waited for this long, it is surprising that the following matters have not been resolved: upward adjustment of CONHESS salary structure, unjustified withholding of the salaries of JOHESU members for the months of April and May 2018, headship of hospital departments, non-promotion of our members on CONHESS 14–15 as directors in some federal health institutions and implementation of consultancy cadre for our members.

“In view of the apparent indifference of the government to permanently resolve these lingering issues, some of which have persisted for over five years now, JOHESU, by this letter, notifies the Federal Government of her resolve to resume the suspended industrial action by Thursday, January 31, 2019 if the issues in dispute are not resolved.”
