JAWWAR Competition commences today; Anastasia and Titus to represent ABH at Opening Games

UI, IBADAN – By 4:00pm today at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan; the biggest oratory competition – Jaw war will commence, for its fifth edition.

Announcing the theme for this year’s competition -“The NIGERIAN Dream; Thoughts and Actions (Celebrating UI at 70), The Literary and Debating Society of the University of Ibadan (TLDS, UI) has planned the entire competition in line with celebrating the University’s 70th anniversary.

As defending champions of the last Jaw war competition for the Hall, the Alexander Brown Hall is set to open the first leg in today’s game against Kuti Hall in the topic – “Immunity for Political Office Holders In Nigeria; Justifiable or not,” with ABH speaking in the affirmative.

Representing the Hall are Anastasia Nwaezuoke, Department of Physiotherapy, 400 level and Titus Adekunle, Department of Medicine and Surgery, 400 level.

Interestingly, Titus served as the vice president of Kuti Hall literary and Debating Society in his preclinical day – doubtful he will show mercy to the foundation of his public speaking roots in UI. Memory will not fail to recall the elegance with which Anastasia graced the Jaw war stage in 2017, earning her the award – Most Outstanding Speaker in the tournament.

Speaking with the President of Alexander Brown Hall Literary and Debating Society, Charles Ojo, “Our speakers are ready to do the Hall proud. We are hopeful that the collective work of the members of the L&D Society and our strong alumni body will not be in vain. From ABH to Clinical Sciences to Dentistry, we are not taking chances this year.

The supporters strength today has however not been encouraging, owing to the various preparations for End of Posting tests scheduled to hold this week.

Tomorrow, Clinical Sciences will face the Faculty of Education while Faculty of Dentistry will go head on with the Faculty of Arts. On Friday, ABH will rematch Kuti for the second leg of the tournament.

Indeed the war has begun!
