The epic HBO hit series final season will be released in April next year as confirmed in a new teaser trailer for the show released today.
A clip announcing the return of the hit series, which first aired in 2011, features the tagline: “For The Throne.”
The video does not reveal a lot of details but rather shows key moments from past series and lets fans know when they can expect to see the much anticipated final season, which will be broadcast in the UK on Sky Atlantic and Now TV.
Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke and Peter Dinklage will reprie their roles as Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister, while Lena Headey will return to face them as the key antagonist, Cersei Lannister.
The final season will be coming almost two years after the seventh series of the show which was released in July 2017. The series has six episodes.
Every battle, every betrayal, every alliance, every risk, every fight, every sacrifice, every oath, every death is all for the throne,” teases the video announcement (embedded above) featuring footage from the previous seasons, before revealing that the show’s final six episodes will premiere in April 2019.
The video also introduces a new #ForTheThrone ad campaign designed to highlight how far each character has gone in their quest to claim the Iron Throne. HBO says it hopes it can also convince “fans to re-watch the series and potential new viewers to watch the series for the first time before the final season begins,” according to a press release.
The series is based on the book A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin.
