UI, IBADAN – ABH Basketball team has gone above and beyond expectations taking a podium finish in the inter hall games. After making it to the semi-finals on the back of two wins the team faced Independence Hall for a place in the finals of the competition.
In the game against independence hall, the ABH basketball team made a slow start to game lacking the rhythm they gained in the last game day of the competition that saw them defeat Zik hall and Abdul-Salam Hall. The team fell behind quickly losing as much as 17-9 in the first half as they failed to deal with their opponent’s fast breaks. The boys however rallied together and came out firing on all cylinders in the 2nd half taking the game to independence hall. However, it was a little too late as they were unable to overturn the large score deficit they suffered in the first half. They lost the game 22-18 and failed to make it to the finals.
But the day was not over as a chance for redemption loomed in the air. A third place match against Mellanby Hall was in the cards for the ABH basketball team. ABH basketball team was determined not to leave the competition empty handed, refusing to give their opponents time to breathe, they took control of the game and never took their foot off the gas pedal. They led the game from start to finish and finished the game strong doubling their opponent’s score and then some. ABH basketball team defeated Mellanby Hall 26-12. This was the best ever performance of the ABH Basketball team at the Inter Hall games.
