The University of Ibadan Senate has moved for the reelection of Professor Adebola Ekanola as the Acting Vice-Chancellor for another tenure of 6 months. This was at the senate meeting which held on 17th May, 2021.

Following the disruption of the vice chancellor selection process last year, Professor Ekanola emerged as the acting vice chancellor pending the reconstitution of a new process. With the acting role expected to elapse at the end of the month, there is still nothing concrete on the appointment of a new vice chancellor.

UCJ reports that the Professor of Philosophy was re-elected following over an hour of debate on the senate floor. 151 members of the UI Senate voted the re-election, while 12 of them abstained from voting. Speaking with newsmen on Monday, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, the university’s Director of Communications confirmed the reelection, shying away from the speculations surrounding the event.

Professor Ekanola’s new tenure commences 1st June, 2021 for another 6-month period unless a substantial vice chancellor is elected.
