After an overwhelming week when Nigerians took to social media to express rage and anguish over the ongoing rape investigation involving Baba Ijesha and a 14-year-old minor who is comedienne, Princess’ foster daughter, all hell broke loose over the weekend when a missing person report evolved into a sad incident of fake job openings, rape, and murder.

The long arm of the law caught up with 48-year-old Olarenwaju James (aka Baba Ijesha), a prominent figure in Yoruba movies on 22nd April 2021 and he has since been taken into custody by the Nigerian police.

Videos surfacing online reveal that Baba Ijesha has owned up and publicly apologized after his colleagues including Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh appeared on Instagram live to express disgust over his actions.

The ongoing strike action by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria which has caused court sittings to not hold is understood to be responsible for the delay by the Nigerian Police to charge him to court.

Iniobong Umoren was largely unknown to a greater fraction of Nigerians until details of her gruesome murder continued to unravel over the course of last weekend. Ms Umoren who had earlier shared her need for a job on social media, was suddenly missing after setting out to meet a certain Uduak Akpan for a job interview in Uyo.

Thoughtful Nigerans pulled resources to help trace Uduak Akpan and his immediate family while the local police command in charge of the case were enjoying the mandatory 24-hour lag which is their routine whenever a missing person’s report surfaces.

In a society where every dawning day possess novel risks to the wellbeing of an average Nigerian lady, establishing and updating a regional or national criminal database is more necessary than ever.

With the unprecedented increase of murder and rape stories hitting the internet daily, ABHPress implores her readers to be as ruthlessly vigilant as the peaky blinders.
