Over the past month, there have been rumours suggesting that the Alexander Brown Hall gym has been marked for demolishing by the College Management. The rumour says that this is following the directive of the Provost.
While these claims have not be confirmed, we have been able to gather that the hall’s gym has, in deed, been marked for demolition.
This was confirmed in a statement by the Defence Minister, Mr. Obinwanne who mentioned it as one of the challenges his office is currently facing during the Press Conference organised by the Alexander Brown Hall Press on Saturday, 12th October, 2019 that Famewo Common Room.
“The current gym was a storage room when the blocks of room at the back of the hall were being built and permission was obtained by the then Minister of Defence, Mr Imri Adefokun, to convert the storage room to a gym following the completion of work.” Mr. Obinwanne stated.
While breaking the bad news, he revealed that despite pleas with the hall management, it appears the directive is above them. There are, however, plans in place to secure a suitable venue to move the gym. He further stressed that there would be a transition period where there would be no gym for a while and the equipment would be moved to the topmost floors of G and E blocks.
He also mentioned the progress with the gymnasium so far expressing that they have commenced measures to wade off unregistered users with the use of a registration book and published pictures of authorised users.
