The 2019 Wimbledon Championships begins today the 1st july in London. This would be 133rd edition of the tournament. As always the tournament will consist of men’s (singles and doubles), women’s (singles and doubles), mixed doubles, boys (under 18 – singles and doubles) and girls (under 18 – singles and doubles).
The main attraction of the tournament is however the Men’s singles and Women’s singles competitions. Novak Djokovic and Angelique Kerber are the defending champions in the singles competitions.
Novak Djokovic is the number one seed in the men’s singles competition with Roger Federer, who is aiming for his 9th Wimbledon title, seeded second though being ranked lower than Rafael Nadal in the ATP rankings. Nadal is the third seed. New boys on the scene Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas are the sixth and seventh seed respectively.
In the women’s singles competition Ashleigh Barty, the world number 1, is the number one seed after picking up the French Open title earlier in the year. Fan favourite Naomi Osaka is the second seed and Karolina Pliskova is the third seed. Defending Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber is ranked as the fifth seed and living legend Serena Williams is eleventh seed.
