The ABH election season climaxed yesterday when OLABISI OLAOLUWA, popularly known as Hollandia, emerged as the Hall Chairperson in what was generally referred to as a keenly contested election.

The election, which was to hold from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., was later shifted to 10 a.m. when the ABH electorates complained about difficulty accessing the voting site. As a result, voters who had cast their votes earlier were requested to vote again until the polls ended at 5 p.m.

The tension in the air was palpable in the quadrangle as Brownites sat down in various groups discussing the entire election process before news of the results started trickling in. OLABISI OLAOLUWA edged out his two other competitors, OFOMA CHARLES and MOSHOOD SALAM, as he won the seat of the Hall Chairperson. The office of the Deputy Hall Chair, which was mired in controversy during the electoral process, became the office of EHIOROBO VANESSA when she managed to clinch two-thirds of the votes as she contested unopposed. ALONGE RAZAQ, who also went unopposed, won the office of the General Secretary comfortably with 531 votes.

The positions of Financial Secretary, Information Minister, Sports Secretary, and Social and Buttery Minister were a less dramatic affair, as OKAFOR NDIDIAMAKA, ADESOKAN EMMANUEL, ADEJI-PAUL PROMISE, and AKINBOYEWA ISRAEL emerged winners in their respective positions.

ONI AJIBOLA became the Defense Minister-elect in yesterday’s polls as he defeated ALUKO SAMUEL by very clear margins. The drama of the executive position also saw ANIMASHAUN DEBORAH defeat her competition with over 90 votes.

The campaign comes and goes, slogans cease to exist, and the bright banners that once decorated the various corners of the Hall have eventually gone into extinction. However, the journey hasn’t ended yet. It is the responsibility of all due-paying Brownites to hold incoming executives to their word when they get inaugurated.

Questions should be asked when things get cloudy; manifestos should be revisited when it is noticed that the hall executives are not delivering on their promises and the goods of democracy. The Hall Assembly and the Press shouldn’t also rest on their oars in checking the excesses of these executives once they resume duty.

Why? Just as the name of the community that contains the various groups in the Hall suggests, Alexander Brown Hall is home.
