ROMANCE MOVIES FOR VALENTINE
Have you been asked to be someone’s valentine? (I hope the men are getting asked too.)
Anyways, I have put together a list of some of the romance movies Nollywood as graciously put out for us in the past years.
I don’t know why you will be watching them instead of experiencing the real life romance with your real life partner. Regardless I know somebody out there, who is not hating on the love affair and the rush of Public Displays of Affection, an hopeless romantic, might appreciate my list. So, dream on and let these movies add spices to your fantasies.
And for the real life lovers, this list will the useful for a sensational movie date.
DINNER AT MY PLACE:
A 2022 romance/comedy simple about a planned proposal going sideways, by, guess what, an overdramatic ex girlfriend showing up. What more can pour sand inside garri?
Scored a solid 6/10. Starring Timini Egbuson, Sophia Alakija, Bisola Aiyeola among others.
BEFORE VALENTINE:
A movie about the season, basically about four hairdressers in a Lagos Salon dealing with relationship drama with their families, friends while anticipating for the most romantic day of the year.
Scored 6.1/10. Starring Bolaji Ogunmola, Shaffy Bello, Yvonne Jegede, Baaj Adebule.
BIG LOVE:
Love sparks between Adil and Adina at an unexpected timing. The independent Adina encounters an extremely loving Adil. But regardless a lie that can’t be ignored persists. Can their big love make up for this?
A 2024 film scored 4.2/10. Starring Timini Egbuson, Bimbo Ademoye, Shaffy Bello, Jaiye Kuti.
THE WEDDING PARTY:
The wedding day arrives and the extravagant party is punctuated by family fight, ex’s appearances, uninvited guests and even a ‘robbery’. How does the day end?
A 2017 movie bagging a 5.9/10. In a nutshell Touching, Lavish and Funny. Starring Adesua Etomi, Sola Sobowale, Ireti Doyle, Ali Baba, Richard Mofe Damijo, among others.
OKAFOR’S LAW:
Okafor’s Law states that once a man has had a relationship with a woman, he can have her again at any time of his wish. A believer in the law puts it to a test to make an example with past girlfriends over a 21-day period. How did it play out? Get to watching.
A 2016 movie with a 4.8/10. This thrilling film stars Omoni Oboli, Toyin Abraham, Gabriel Afolayan, Ufuoma McDermott.
KAMBILI:
Determined to get wedded by the age of 30 an impulsive and reckless lady tries to turn her life around and win back the love of a boyfriend who jilted her.
This 2020 romantic comedy gets a good 6.6/10. Starring Sharon Ooja, Toyin Abraham, Nancy Isime, Uzor Arukwe among others.
ROYAL HIBISCUS HOTEL:
A chef, daughter of an hotelier leaves Europe to her family’s hotel in Nigeria, ready to refine the menu and restore the place. She on the way, falls in love. Everything scatters when she discovers that her parents intend to sell the hotel the man she loves.
Released 2018 to be rated 5.4/10. It is a light-hearted, amusing, romantic film starring Zainab Balogun, Deyemi Okanlawon, Kenneth Okolie, Rachel Oniga, Jude Kosoko among others.
SYLVIA:
Now this is a romance movie that comes with some heart racing about Richard that decides to move on from imaginary friend stroke lover to concentrate on his real life relationship. Things twists really dark quickly as Sylvia begins to torment his peaceful life. Counts as a fantasy, a romance and thriller film, released in 2018 with a 5.1/10. Starring Ini Dinma-Okojie, Chris Attoh, Zainab Balogun among others.
Make that choice and give yourself the chance to be blown away by the version of love filmmakers present to us.
