Bill Amending Attendance Quota Passes First Reading in Hall Assembly
The 4th ordinary meeting of the Hall Assembly held on Friday, the 28th of January, 2024, at the Famewo Common Room.
On the agenda for the meeting was a report on the state of the Hall from the Hall Chairman, Mr Jesufemi Adeyeye. In his report, he thanked the Hall Assembly members and Brownites for their support during the fumigation and clean up exercises which took place between the end of the last year into the beginning of the new year. He also mentioned that the first phase of Project Light Up ABH had begun. Of note in his report was the donation of two hundred and eighty thousand naira by the MBBS Class of 2017 to the cleaners in the hall. The sum is meant to palliate the suffering of the cleaners, who sometimes go through long periods without wages.
Also on the agenda for the night was the first reading of a bill sponsored by Honorable Sophia Okeke. The bill seeks to address the attendance quota for Honorable members by stating that the 70% required attendance excludes periods of official leave. Currently, the constitution is unclear about whether periods of official leave are considered when deciding if an honorable member is deemed to have met the attendance requirements. Honourable Ayo Fatola read the bill in Honorable Okeke’s stead as Honourable Okeke is currently on official leave. Honorable Fatola mentioned that she hopes the bill will ensure there is no room for doubt in the constitution should a matter of this nature come up in the future.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:10pm by Honourable Anyironye Daniel and seconded by Hon. Solomon Todimu.
