UCH, IBADAN -A friendly match between ABH female football team and SON football team held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at SMLS football pitch, each team having 5 players and 2 substitutions. The five-aside pitch marked out with tires was immediately put to use by the two teams after the referee, Ernesto Dibia had explicitly instructed the ladies on the dos and don’ts of the game to enable a fair game. The first 10 minutes of the 20 minute first half had the female brownites dominating with 5 shots on target and no shots on target for their opponents. The balance of the game was quickly tilted in the last 5 minutes of the first half by a wonderful goal from the team captain, Seyi Savage. It was a moment to behold.
First half was over and the coach of the SON team could be seen giving ginger and fire to his team for them to equalize and win if possible, on the ABH team side coach victor pointed out a few mistakes and head coach Fawaz, gave his support and advice over the phone.
A second goal by team member, Oreoluwa Adesanya in the first 3 minutes of the second half seemed to be the last straw that broke the camel’s back. Though the SON team tried tirelessly and persistently to equalize, all efforts proved futile immediately the referee blew the final whistle. Maroon had never looked brighter than lemon except for this moment as the ABH team rejoiced in their maroon coloured bibs and the SON team withdrew in their lemon bibs.
“It was a good game, I’m so proud of you guys, you have improved greatly from the inter-hall games” coach victor praised his team. He even treated the ladies with refreshments after the match.
