On Thursday the 9th of August, 2018, former 2-time president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo invited as the distinguished guest lecturer of the 17th Annual programme of the forum, gave a lecture on the Challenges of Ethics in National Development, at the Osuntokun Hall, University College Hospital, Ibadan

The lecture which was all about the dwindling value system and its negative effect on our national development led him to point out the under achievement of the current PMB government. He said: “What’s more, the government that came to power on the mantra and sentiments of change has been badly compromised.” This statement was made after he emphasized his disgust with the herdsmen/crop farmer’s issue which has been wittingly or unwittingly allowed to turn messy and sour, he further paid no credit to the federal government who have found no effective solution to the continuous rampage of the herdsmen which has gone on with careless abandon.

He went on to quote a part of the Nigerian constitution which explains that the government’s main aim is to cater for the welfare and security of every Nigerian and that any government that doesn’t fulfill this section of the constitution has failed in all aspects. The situation of this country doesn’t depict otherwise.

“From the groundswell of positive perception that catapulted PMB to the epicenter of this country’s political leadership in 2015, he seems to have lost the war against corruption.” The former president added. He further gave statistical facts from Transparency International which showed that Nigeria has been falling in the ranking of least corrupt countries in the world from 136th out of 176 countries in 2015 and 2016 to 148th place in 2017 signifying the failure of Buhari’s war.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo concluded by saying: “Unless, except and until we re-establish the ethical and moral foundation of the Nigerian State with a view to checking the cankerworm of unbridled corruption which had been ravaging the nation for several decades now, we will continue at the mercy of CHARLATANS in government, business and the profession.”
